Google is revolutionizing its search experience by integrating generative Artificial Intelligence (AI). This technological innovation aims to expand the boundaries of search capabilities, provide users with unique ways to generate images and written content, and ultimately enhance the value of Google’s search engine.
“Google’s integration of generative AI into their search engine is redefining the user experience, paving the way for a new era of AI-infused search.”
Generate Images with Google’s AI-powered Search
There are occasions when users are looking for an exact image they can’t find or when they have an idea they need help visualizing. To address this, Google is introducing the ability to create images through their generative AI-powered Search experience (SGE). Users can input a specific search query, and the system will generate up to four images corresponding to the request.
For instance, if a user searches for “draw a picture of a capybara wearing a chef’s hat and cooking breakfast,” SGE will provide generated images reflecting this request. Clicking on any of these images reveals how the generative AI has expanded the initial query with descriptive details, enhancing the creativity and specificity of the results. Users can further edit the description to add more elements and bring their vision to life.
The image generation feature is also designed to appear when users seek inspiration. However, Google is committed to introducing this technology responsibly, embedding safeguards into the experience and blocking the creation of images that violate their prohibited use policy for generative AI.
Google’s Upcoming Tool for Image Context and Credibility
Google is also developing an upcoming tool called “About this image” to help users quickly assess the context and credibility of images. This tool will provide insights such as when a similar version of the image may have first appeared or other pages on the web that use a similar idea, including news or fact-checking sites.
Writing Inspiration with SGE
Google also introduces written drafts in SGE to assist users in their research or search processes. Users can input a draft request, such as “Write a note to a contractor asking for a quote to turn my garage into a home office,” SGE will generate a corresponding draft. Users can then export their draft to Google Docs or Gmail, with Google Workspace privacy protections carrying over into this export functionality.
Google believes integrating generative AI into Search can inspire creativity and increase productivity. They look forward to continued testing and user feedback on their productive AI experiments through Search Labs in the Google app or Chrome desktop.
